MERI ROLL CALL

The MERI ROLL CALL is an easy to use guide that gives readers the information they need on incumbent state legislators’ performance on key issues affecting our economy.

The 2008 MERI Roll Call provides important information, distilled into handy, easy to read graphics by County.  The 2008 Roll Call includes current and past MERI ratings for those incumbents who have served in previous legislatures. Readers can easily determine trends for longer-serving state legislators.

MERI’s ratings are based on a legislator’s voting performance taken from the public record.  The time-tested method MERI uses to calculate the ratings, tracks a legislator’s votes on bills considered critical to key economic issues.  Employing the same method used in almost half the states in the nation, the result is a rating which provides, at a glance, an overall impression of a legislator’s attitude toward economy-friendly legislation and economic growth.

There are campaign promises and then there are voting records.  A legislator’s voting record is the actual performance of our elected representatives—right there in black and white.  The 2008 Roll Call is a tool for a legislator’s constituents to ask informed questions of their representatives.

In addition, the 2008 Roll Call contains facts about Maine’s economy, including statistics on Maine’s crushing tax burden compared to its neighbors, ongoing tax trends by category, and the fact that Maine’s median household incomes decreased, while the US average increased during the same period—all presented in a colorful, easy-to-reference format. This user-friendly product is unique to Maine and provides citizens with the opportunity to ask more informed questions of their representatives.

The 2008 MERI ROLL CALL combines the economic performance of state legislators from the first and second sessions of the 123rd Maine State Legislature. The 2008 Roll Call is available -- please call 207.622.9075 or email us at info@me-ri.org.
